FREE advice on your rights following a no fault car accident
Non-fault accidents – how do they affect your premium?
Some insurers’ data shows that drivers who were in an accident that wasn’t their fault are more likely to be in an accident again that is their fault in the next few years.
That’s why if you’re in a non-fault accident, your car insurance premium might rise at renewal. This is why re recommend using our Accident Management service as this will avoid this happening as
we claim directly off the 3rd Parties insurance on your behalf.
If you think it’s not your fault but it’s not immediately obvious, there’re a few things you can do to help back-up your claim.
- Swap details with the other driver.
- Take pictures of the damage to both cars and the surroundings. Do this before the cars are moved.
- Take down names, addresses and phone numbers of any witnesses. The accident management team or your insurance company might need to contact them if there’re any questions over who’s liable for
the accident.
After a no fault accident
- Ensure your vehicle is roadworthy before you drive it again. For example, check that the lights still work, there is no dangerous bodywork that may injure other road users and there are no
leaking fluids.
- Avoid speaking to the 3rd Parties insurance company follwoing the accident, they will just be trying to find the cheapest option for them to get your car repaired. Often invalidating your cars
warranty and not being done in line with Thatcham or Maufacturer approved methods of repair. These methods are essential as they ensure your car maintains its safety rating and maufacturers bodywork
warranty.
Choosing your repairer
Remember it is your vehicle and you can choose who repairs it. Many insurers have networks of their ‘’approved’’ repairers, they may try and convince you to have your car repaired where they choose.
Remember this is for their convenience not yours. Many are not British Standards or Manufacturer approved they are simply willing to work to the cheapest rates. Sandown Coachworks are British
Standards BS10125 certified to the highest level available in the UK as well as holding many Vehicle Manufacturer Approvals.
Don’t be unduly influenced by insurers suggestions of delays and extra costs if you don’t do what they say. You are entitled to consider the benefits of dealing with the repairer of your choice.
You are not obliged to have your car repaired at an insurance company nominated repairer.
